Spring End, 'twixt Spa Street and Hall Cliffe Road - I must've been here or passed through here a thousand times, sometimes on foot, sometimes by motor-bike - and once or twice on the back of Cotty's tandem. This place was just a huddle of houses between one place and another back then... I have lotsa, lotsa, lotsa stories of my visits here, starting back when I was just a wee sprog and continuing on into my early twenties... They've pulled down a deal of those houses since then, for whatever reason... and stuck some new houses here and there in some of the spaces... for whatever reason...
I'd go there sketching sometimes, particularly back in my art-school days - I don't have the balls now to go and sit at the roadside anywhere with my pad and pencil and paints and brushes - although I do try it every once in a while, and always people will immediately appear who want to see what I'm doing, and want to talk about the weather and the time of day, or about their problems...
...so nowadays I take along my camera and take some shots, bring them back home to my place in Canada... and paint them here... pity, really, just not the same as your actual en plein-air... and of late I'm occasionally getting accosted by persons wanting to know what I'm doing wandering about with my camera, and who want to talk about the weather and the time of day, or about their problems...
